This Interdisciplinary Doctoral Training Hub (IDTH) in Sustainable Transport is led by cross disciplinary parters and schools within Cardiff University in close collaboration with leading industrial stakeholders and policy makers.
We offer a unique programme that provides a holistic understanding of the entire transportation industry. We believe that this approach is key to developing you as a future leader in sustainable development, whether you choose to pursue a career in industry or academia or both.
We offer fully-funded PhDs with an enhanced stipend to eligible students. The future growth for high-value jobs within the transportation industry will coincide with a demand for staff educated to PhD level.
Current research focusses on advances in key sectors: Aerospace (advanced materials, optimized structures, electrification, biofuels); Automotive (electric vehicles, hydrogen, hybrid, autonomous vehicles, charging infrastructure); Rail (battery, hydrogen, hybrid, electrification); Marine (alternative fuels (methanol, hydrogen, ammonia, biofuels), non-fuel propulsion (hybrid, electric, shore-power, wind, solar), improved efficiency (pre-swirl propeller ducts, vane wheel, hull scrubbing).
