Sustainable transport strategies to reduce climate change risks will have large, immediate health benefits for the majority of the world’s population’…‘Well-designed transport policies and infrastructure investment priorities can lead to far-reaching reductions in traffic-related health risks from air and noise pollution and injuries

Delivering an integrated transport system combining a cohesive public transport system, active transport provision and clean vehicle technologies/ fuels requires engineers, computer scientists, psychologists and planners to examine vehicular, infrastructure and energy systems challenges as well as drivers for change-technology innovation, individual mobility needs and economic requirements alongside environmental and social concerns and the role of policies/regulations. To achieve this, students will need both a detailed understanding of their own PhD focus and the relationship between this and the system as a whole. This can only be achieved through a cohort approach.
The interdisciplinary training hub environment aims to create a strong cohort of researchers who develop skills beyond the specialist topic of their PhD and develop networks across universities and industry.
They provide a supportive and exciting environment for students, creating new working cultures and forging lasting links with industry.
The Sustainable Transport Group at Cardiff University is leading initiatives such as the Decarbonisation of Transport through Electrification Network+ which brings together researchers from disciplines including Engineering, Computer Science, Psychology and Geography and Planning along with leading industrial stakeholders and Policy makers to identify, develop and deliver solutions to todays transport needs. By taking a holistic approach we are best placed to find the integrated solutions essential to the smart mobility of the future.
Being part of this exciting new centre will allow you to work alongside world leading experts from both academia and industry and gives you access to extensive interdisciplinary facilities, putting you in the best place to start out on building your career.
